Japanese translation seems to be overshadowed by the big presence of China and the need for Simplified Chinese translations. However, the Japanese market remains one of the top priorities for most global companies, and Japanese is still listed as one of the most difficult languages to manage. Seasoned Japanese localizers from both the buyer side and language service provider side, who are active members of Women in Localization, will share some best practices for managing Japanese localization projects in a panel discussion format. Bring all your questions about Japanese localization and gain practical information firsthand.

Finding product feature bugs in the critical path isn’t a game changer anymore. The world is moving toward buying an experience over buying just a product. This is truer when it comes to mobile apps where the interaction level of a user is much higher compared to a desktop or a mobile product. Adobe is committed to delivering an intuitive experience along with a high-quality product. They are an international company serving international customers. In this session, we will talk about the importance of introducing customer experience and what small steps Adobe has been taking to build international customer experience advocates within.

Apart from the technology trend buzzwords “AI” and “Big Data,” some localization companies provide the one-stop content solution that includes content marketing, technical writing, design and video creation. These extra services are important for enabling companies in China to go global. The biggest challenge is to find the overseas native speaker talents (mainly content marketing) and bring them to work onsite in China. In this session, we will share Alibaba’s international user experience design best practices for how to build up the remote and in-house resource pool to provide the seamless one-stop content solution (content and design).

In terms of global revenue, three out of the four dominant mobile gaming markets are in Asia: China, Japan and South Korea. How can a publisher enter into those markets? How can we develop a top-notch localization quality strategy to adapt to local preferences and styles? In this presentation, we will give the audience an overview of how a non-Asian publisher can break into the Asian market: a story of four East-Asian languages that have come to be hard-launch game languages over the past five years at King, where we are now and where we want to go in the future. We will also touch areas such as localization core competencies tailored for the gaming industry and practical learning for global businesses.

IKEA has a unique tone of voice to connect with many people. It’s important that everyone is able to easily understand us, our culture, values, what we stand for and the home furnishing knowledge in their own language. Three years ago, Pitney Bowes started building a globalization community to reach across the company to engage people who don’t even know that Pitney Bowes has an approved in-house localization process; provide global resources, education and support for specific team projects; and allow individuals to pose questions and collaborate with each other about all things globalization and localization. It took time, but their Yammer group now has over 750 members. How did they do it? What have they learned? Come to this session to gain practical advice for your company.

Quality used to be a static concept in the translation industry. Undisputedly translation buyers would expect human, such as good quality, translations. Now, in many cases, users seem to be happy to accept good enough machine translations (MTs), especially when they are delivered in real time. The TAUS Quality Dashboard with the underlying MQM/DQF metrics is getting traction as a standard approach to quality evaluation. It can help to differentiate, measure and benchmark translation quality according to agreed content profiles. It potentially takes a lot of the subjectivity out of the quality management function. DQF helps to aggregate data that support decisions on the training and selection of MT engines and the matching of resources and translation assets. In this session, you will see how companies integrate with the DQF Open API and you’ll get an overview of the approaches to translation quality over time.

One of the challenges in neural machine translation (NMT) is its lack of customizability – the ability to configure the engines with glossary and style guides. Globalese 3.1, an NMT system developed by Morphologic Localisation, introduces the new feature augmented in-domain adaptation where a user can use a smaller amount of core corpora and larger auxiliary corpora to build an NMT engine which is trained for a specific domain. In this presentation, we will explain this new feature and present some case studies in Asian and European languages.
