May Li is a professor of linguistics with Tongji University, China, and a member of the Tongji University Council. She acts as vice chairman of Shanghai Science & Technology Translation Society and vice director of the Translation Technology Education & Research Society of WITTA (World Interpreter and Translator Training Association). May obtained her MA and PhD degrees in linguistics from the University of Manchester, UK. She previously worked as editor of English programs with Anhui People’s Broadcasting Station, Anhui Province, China. May has been working at Tongji University since 1988. During her years at Tongji, while being a full-time teacher, she worked as assistant head of the Department of English, adjunct vice director of the University President’s Office, deputy director of the university International Exchange and Cooperation Office and acting dean of the School of Foreign Languages. She led an Americas and Oceania Team of 11 people at the Shanghai Expo 2010 Bidding Office and contributed to Shanghai’s successfully bringing Expo to China. During this time as an account director, she worked with various blue chip organizations to develop their new business sales and retention strategies, globally. Björn Rettig is vice president, World Ready Team at PayPal. He is also an instructor at the Harvard University Extension school, a husband, a father of two young ladies (both excited about STEM) and a proud geek. Denis Gachot is the chief executive officer of SYSTRAN Software Inc., a California corporation based in San Diego, CA, which has been part of the SYSTRAN Group since 2014. French born, now a US citizen, he has a BA in mechanical engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland. Denis started his professional career in the chemical engineering industry in Chicago and worked in the automotive industry in Detroit before joining SYSTRAN. He has witnessed three major technological revolutions in the machine translation industry (rule-based, statistical and neural), and has contributed to make and maintain SYSTRAN a leader in the industry.
Morgan Gallup Zhu, a Nimdzi consultant, speaks Mandarin and helps marketers and localization teams scale up global content that fuels revenue growth. She has spent 14 years in China, seven of which were with RWS Moravia where she rose to director. Her responsibilities included focusing on growing their business in China by engaging with the top seven largest Chinese technology companies and building programs for those that were in need of premium localization programs. Daniel Goldschmidt is a speaker and educator with software internationalization and localization expertise. He also teaches computer science and physics to middle and high school students, driven by his belief that investing in the next generation is vital for humanity’s future.
Previously, Daniel was a senior internationalization project manager at Microsoft, leading the internationalization team in the Cloud and Enterprise Division. Prior to PayPal, Youngmin worked at Sun Microsystems as a globalization architect and NetApp as a director, product globalization.

Hui May Koh is the head of localization vendor engagement management at PayPal. She has been involved in localization for more than 20 years in various roles both on the client and vendor sides. Before PayPal, Hui May held various management roles in production and project management at Alpnet, Inc., (now SDL) in their APAC headquarters located in Singapore. More recently she was the senior manager of corporate programs and localization operations at Autodesk.
Gary Lefman is a chartered engineer, internationalization evangelist and educator, passionate about software globalization. He is a Fellow and chair of the British Computer Society, the Chartered Institute for IT, with nearly two decades of authority and leadership in software localization. Gary gained his master of science in multilingual computing and localization from the Localisation Research Centre (University of Limerick), where he is now a visiting lecturer. He is a STEM ambassador and Code Club leader, enthusing children across England in the subjects of science, engineering and computational thinking. May Li is a professor of linguistics with Tongji University, China, and a member of the Tongji University Council. She acts as vice chairman of Shanghai Science & Technology Translation Society and vice director of the Translation Technology Education & Research Society of WITTA (World Interpreter and Translator Training Association). May obtained her MA and PhD degrees in linguistics from the University of Manchester, UK. She previously worked as editor of English programs with Anhui People’s Broadcasting Station, Anhui Province, China. May has been working at Tongji University since 1988. During her years at Tongji, while being a full-time teacher, she worked as assistant head of the Department of English, adjunct vice director of the University President’s Office, deputy director of the university International Exchange and Cooperation Office and acting dean of the School of Foreign Languages. She led an Americas and Oceania Team of 11 people at the Shanghai Expo 2010 Bidding Office and contributed to Shanghai’s successfully bringing Expo to China. May has had wide publications in linguistics and applied linguistics in leading academic journals in China. She has focused her research interest in technical communication and machine translation post-editing in recent years.
Afrizal Luthfi is chief operating officer at SpeeQual, a translation and localization company with locations in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. Previously, he worked as an in-house translator, promoted to project manager and then as head of production at SpeeQual. With over six years of experience in the localization industry, Afrizal has good experience in completing many challenging projects successfully. Andrey Moiseev is an expert in translation, interpretation and internationalization business with more than 15 years of experience. He worked as the head of language services for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Organizing Committee. He is also an independent language services consultant for various language service providers. Andrey was previously the director of language services for the 2014 Sochi Organizing Committee and subsidiary director of an international translation company in Kiev, Ukraine. He has organized linguistic support for a number of international events with Russian and international top-level authorities. He graduated from Moscow State University and Korean University.
Senthil Nathan has been in the language business for 20 years and has headed teams to provide Indian languages services to global language service providers and Indian corporate customers. He started his career in media and publishing and is one of the pioneers of the localization industry in India. Senthil is closely associated with language computing activities for Indic languages and helps policy makers in developing language policies. He currently focuses on machine translation solutions for Indic languages.
Andrzej Nedoma is the cofounder and CEO of XTRF Management Systems, a global translation management platform provider for translation companies of every size, in-house corporate language departments and public organizations. He was awarded with the Polish Entrepreneur of the Year title for the 2006 services category. Andrzej has been building his translation industry expertise since 1996 as a business development manager and as a managing director for LIDO-LANG Technical Translations, which was eventually sold to Sepro Group from Spain.
With a master’s in African languages and a doctorate in linguistics, Manuela Noske draws upon a deep understanding of language and social behavior to deliver fresh perspectives on the language needs and preferences of customers in emerging markets. She has taken a close look at the role that language plays in creating great user experiences worldwide and through her volunteer work with the Indigenous Language Institute she has gained first-hand experience working with Native American communities in preserving and strengthening their languages.
Giuliano Octavianos currently serves as marketing and business development manager of Tinder for Indonesia. Previously he served as director, head of product partnership and market development for Blackberry Messenger. Prior to this Giuliano spent almost two years at Facebook with a focus on building a telecommunication and tech industry. He is passionate in building the market and brand, where putting the consumer first has always been his real focus when interacting with the user in any market. At Tinder, Giuliano is helping the company to understand and build the strategy for Indonesia.
Donna Parrish is co-organizer of the LocWorld conferences. She was publisher of the magazine MultiLingual for 18 years. Prior to her work at MultiLingual Computing, Inc., she was a computer programmer for 25 years. Donna holds a degree in mathematics from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. She is presently the secretary of CLEAR Global (Translators without Borders) and CLEAR Tech.
Natalya Pavlikova has been the technical writer and localization engineer for Xsolla for over six years. In technical writing, Natalya mainly focuses on engineering tasks such as continuous localization and automatic generation of documentation. She graduated from Perm State National Research University, the faculty of mechanics and mathematics. Prior to Xsolla, Natalya worked in design engineering and dealt with mathematical modeling.
Mirko Plitt has worked in a wide range of roles in the language industry, always with a focus on making state-of-the-art language technology helpful to people. He joined Translators without Borders in June 2016 with a strong background in computational linguistics. Mirko now leads the development of innovative language technology that helps people living through crisis communicate in a language they can understand.
Sarah Qiao is interested in culture and language and has a degree in translation and interpreting from the University of International Business and Economics. She joined VMware in 2016 and is currently a localization program manager.
Tom Raczka is a localization manager with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). His expertise is in localization technology, linguistics, localization management and procurement. Tom has consulted for leading global brands such as Gartner and CEB on agile localization workflows, and has managed global marketing campaigns and new brand launches (luxury, upscale and mainstream) in Europe, Middle East and Southeast Asia. As a qualified translator and interpreter, he is multilingual in five languages (so far) and has previously worked in consultancy and academia. Tom holds two master’s degrees with distinction from top universities in the UK (Imperial College London) and Poland as well as a postgraduate qualification in cloud-based localization technology from the University College London. Before joining thebigword, Amanda Ree worked in the finance and insurance sector for over 23 years, gaining experience in the development of large strategically complex accounts. During this time as an account director, she worked with various blue chip organizations to develop their new business sales and retention strategies, globally. Amanda worked in collaboration to create acquisition, cross-sell and multichannel plans supported by customer satisfaction programs. After many years in the industry, building her knowledge and experience as a strategic development director working overseas in Australia, the US and the Philippines, Amanda decided to settle back in the UK and make a career change into language services at thebigword. She applied for the role of strategic sales director within the public sector in 2013, responsible for the large strategic UKGOV accounts. During this time, Amanda has delivered growth, successfully renewed contracts and built strong client relationships with longevity. It is very rewarding transferring sales knowledge and experience into a different sector and seeing the great results.
Björn Rettig is vice president, World Ready Team at PayPal. He is also an instructor at the Harvard University Extension school, a husband, a father of two young ladies (both excited about STEM) and a proud geek. After 26 years at Microsoft in different engineering roles, he left the Pacific Northwest and joined PayPal to go back to his roots of localization and globalization. Björn is the inventor of the multilingual user interface, the language interface packs and holds five other software patents.
Peter Reynolds is co-CEO at memoQ and has previously worked at Idiom, Berlitz GlobalNet, Bowne Global Solutions, and Lionbridge. Peter has been actively involved in the development and promotion of standards for over a decade – he is the convener of the ISO working group which deals with translation (ISO TC 37 SC 5 WG1), an Irish expert to ISO/CEN, the liaison representative of OASIS to TC 37, and Deputy Chair of the Irish ISO TC 37 Mirror Committee. He holds BSc and MBA degrees from Open University and is a localization and translation industry veteran.
Michael Rosinski is the CEO of Astoria, A Transperfect Company. He has led a dynamic 25-year career as a technology executive in the enterprise application software industry. Before joining Astoria, A Transperfect Company, Michael was a founding member of American Software’s management team, where he was executive vice president of sales — growing revenues to over $100M and responsible for the company being named to “Forbes Best 200 Small Companies.” At American, he completed one of the first initial public offerings (IPOs) in the enterprise resource planning market segment, and later was responsible for the company’s successful spin-off IPO of Logility, Inc. in the supply chain management space. Michael also served as senior vice president of worldwide sales and business development at Avolent, where he grew sales over 140%. Prior to Avolent, he leveraged his international experience as president of Augeo Software, a French/Dutch company in the professional services automation space. Under his direction, the company instituted marketing, sales and funding partnerships with J.D. Edwards, Daimler Chrysler and ABN Amro resulting in Augeo being named by Computerworld as one of the “Top 100 Companies to Watch in 2000.” Michael also held key executive positions at Nestle USA and Johnson & Johnson. He holds a bachelor’s degree in management and organizational behavior from Rider University and has completed a graduate MBA study at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Pradipta Sarkar currently heads content for India’s first and largest interactive gameshow platform, Loco, at Pocket Aces. She has also served as managing editor of FilterCopy (another Pocket Aces channel), one of India’s best known digital entertainment brands. A digital content strategist, writer, editor and former book publisher, Pradipta has previously worked with POPxo.com, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, HarperCollins Publishers India and Rupa Publications India.
Satyendra Sheel has over 18 years of diversified experience with strong and proven technical leadership experience in handling multiple technologies, projects and schedules in aggressive agile environments and cultures. At Adobe, he manages the quality engineering team responsible for delivering digital experience solutions for international customers. Satyendra also leads various initiatives toward improving the international leadership model through focusing on building processes, tools and technologies, infrastructure and expertise.
Yueting (Claire) Tan is an experienced, results-oriented, PMP certified localization professional skilled in building and improving processes and managing high performing teams in a fast-paced environment. Since 2015 she has been leading a team of localization professionals, providing efficient internationalization and localization solutions to game products that have successfully entered global markets. Claire built her global experience at a variety of notable technology and video game companies in the US and China including Apple, Welocalize and YY Inc. after obtaining a master’s degree in translation localization management at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.
Claire Tsai is currently leading globalization and international expansion at Cloudflare. She has specialized in international digital marketing strategy, global product management and localization program optimization for the past decade in her previous roles at VMware, Intuit and Ubisoft. Claire holds an MA in translation and localization management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. She also has completed two Wharton Executive Education programs at the University of Pennsylvania in strategic marketing and marketing metrics.
Anne-Maj van der Meer is a marketing professional with over ten years of experience in event organization and management. She has a BA in English language and culture from the University of Amsterdam and a specialization in creative writing from Harvard University. Before her position at TAUS, Anne-Maj was a teacher at primary schools in regular as well as special needs education. She started her career at TAUS in 2009 as the first TAUS employee where she became a jack of all trades, taking care of bookkeeping and accounting as well as creating and managing the website and customer services. For the past five years, Anne-Maj has served as the events director, chief content editor and designer of publications. She has helped in the organization of more than 35 LocWorld conferences, where she took care of the program for the TAUS track and hosted and moderated these sessions.
