Loyalty to a translation is an almost impossible ideal in a realistic industry where LQA testers are beholden to developers, translators, producers, managers, and fans. Each title has its own style, each translator their own interpretation, each studio its own expectations, each fanbase their own norms – and without extensive market research, these will all inevitably clash. So, to whom does the LQA team owe their allegiance? The only way to find out is through communication and collaboration, highlighted by using a real-life Japanese RPG project and learning from our shared mistakes.

  • What translation loyalty and fidelity means for game localization specifically;
  • How the intersectionality of loc teams affects LQA processes and its output;
  • How to communicate linguistic and cultural expectations effectively to your LQA team.
