To motivate energy consumers worldwide to change behavior, Opower’s localization process applies various forms of user research and leverages behavioral science to capture distinct cultural norms and unique home and energy device characteristics, while ensuring that our content across channels retains a consistent and engaging voice. We will share some stories of our initial failed attempts and how we have refined our process, as well as case studies, with a focus on Japan where we have done our most extensive research and adaptation, and where the deregulation of the utility market in April 2016 brings new opportunities to reach consumers.
