Since the demise of LISA, the translation industry has struggled with translation metrics. Thousands of translation companies and buyers around the world keep creating their own metrics and reinventing the wheel. The subjectivity and variability of metrics make training translators, project managers and localization managers difficult. To correctly measure productivity, an industry-wide comparison tool must arise. Cloud translation tools and the data produced by them could be a game changer here. By adopting an industry-wide standard, such as MQM/DQF, across a big enough cloud, benchmarking would become easier. Will all stakeholders be willing to take this step?
