How do you build a localization function quickly in a creative business-to-client environment? When Canva, the fastest-growing tech startup in Australia, decided on its international expansion plans, the company needed to hit the ground running with localization that could scale — all the while preserving their unique voice and translating that for their international audiences. In this session, we will show the journey that Canva has taken to quickly grow their localization maturity. We will outline the tools, systems and choices they have made to streamline their translation process and launch into seven languages in a few months. Canva’s culture fosters ruthless prioritization and constant experimenting, which is also reflected in their approach to localization. We will also share some insights into Canva’s growth tactics, international search engine optimization strategy and the internal changes that have been necessary to adapt the company culture to think internationally.
