Video game development, localization, and specifically games as service are all industries and models that are famed for often being stressful, and it’s not unheard of that these can take a mental toll on the people involved in the processes. Avalanche Studios is one of the rare organizations to angle its production model in a way that is humane, respectful, and considers the needs of everyone involved in all the steps of the workflow. In collaboration with our localization team, we have been working together with Avalanche Studios to support the live needs of their different titles, which all operate on regular updates with a focus on narrative. In this session, we intend to collaboratively explore how to plan the process, focusing on nurturing relationships, creating sustainable workflows, handling constant improvements via discussion, and finding real balance across the needs of all the people involved in the process of localizing live games.
Takeaways: Attendees will get an understanding what we can do in different organizations to improve the relationship between development and localization; how to organize feedback sessions to constantly improve processes; how to plan live updates to game titles in a way that allows for consistent quality results without straining the teams; and get tips regarding technical setups that lead to a more organized and context-focused localization process.
