XML itself, as well as XLIFF and other XML-based file formats are very common in the translation industry. Usually, our translation tools can deal well with them but every now and then the file developer has a creative idea of what else they can do with XML. This can lead to error messages, incompatibilities, and the necessity of pre- or post-process of the files. In this presentation we will show some real-life examples of the difficulties that can arise when XML and XLIFF are not created as expected, together with some possible workarounds.
Takeaways: Participants will understand what translation tools expect from XML-based file formats; what to look for when checking the translatability of XML-based files; and discover that the presented solutions/workarounds are easy to implement.
