Until recently, standards fell into the worthy but dull category. Recently this has changed dramatically. They are now a very important driver in productivity and process improvements, which the localization industry needs to thrive. The growing use of machine translation has highlighted the needs for quality standards and benchmarks. Translation companies have sought to differentiate themselves by their adherence to standards such as ISO 17100. Technology standards such as XLIFF are now a crucial backbone for localization. In this presentation we will discuss these developments and what it means for global business.
