Language is a social technology. As society changes, language, too, should evolve. However, in some areas, such as technical terminology, changes to the language can be complex and difficult to implement, even though they are necessary. Last June, as the Black Lives Matter movement was gathering momentum, Rockwell Automation and PTC joined forces to solve challenges of identifying and replacing noninclusive technical terms used in their products and content. In this presentation, we will discuss their journey, focusing on challenges encountered and how they were addressed. Their lessons learned can help other companies that embarked on a similar journey.
Takeaways: Attendees will learn practical approaches that will help them convey the importance of inclusive terminology, and of inclusive communication in general.
