The first public announcement of a released neural machine translation (NMT) engine came in October 2016 from Google. And since then, many more NMT engines were released by not only the IT giants, but also smaller established companies like SYSTRAN, KantanMT, Iconic and Omniscien Technologies. Even though it’s been around for a while now, NMT remains a bit of a vague phenomenon. There are many questions around it. What is it? How does it work? What are the results? How can you apply it? Who is using it? What can you use it for? How does it affect my business? Can I, as a translator, benefit from this as well? In this panel discussion, players from different sides of the industry get together for an informal conversation on the stage to address these and many more questions with the goal to demystify the notion of neural machine translation. If you have a specific question you’d like the panel to address, please contact the moderator of the panel, Anne-Maj van der Meer.
