Box is following best internationalization and localization practices. They work closely with product managers, designers and developers, they’re running continuous localization and testing. But no matter how much work they do, when they launch internationally, something always goes slightly wrong. After much thought, they have realized that they need to change the way they are thinking about software products. What the product team does now is ideate a product, then design and build it (following internationalization and localization best practices). What they need to do is ideate a global product then design and build it. The product needs to be global by design (from the very beginning). In this presentation, we will explain what it means for a software product to be global by design. Then we will go over the entire global product creation cycle — from ideation, design and development to launch and iteration — and the things that we need to check ourselves against at every step.

Takeaways: Attendees will get a checklist to create a global product, which they will be free to share with their extended teams or clients; a lot of very specific examples for every item on the checklist; a tool to become a leader in their product team and move their career forward; and a mind shift to ‘global by design.’
