Language service providers (LSPs) are on the edge of a massive change in how they receive and translate content. The move to agile development methodologies results in constant streams of small transactions, and the numbers are set to increase dramatically in the next few years. Unfortunately, most LSPs still live in a waterfall world, with processes optimized for a small number of larger projects. As content quantities explode and the size of projects falls, the fixed costs associated with each one threaten to overwhelm LSPs by reducing profits and stretching human resources to the breaking point. Only a move to simplify processes radically and automate relentlessly will allow today’s language companies to thrive. In this session, we will discuss the new drive for process and technical interoperability and how LSPs can respond to the existential crisis they face. We will also focus on areas that need improvement and how technology is rising to meet the challenge.
