Marcello Federico heads the HLT-MT research unit at Fondazione Bruno Kessler, a publicly funded research organization with strong ties to the University of Trento (Italy). In addition, he is also lecturer and board member at the ICT Doctorate School of the University of Trento, and scientific advisor of MateCat Srl. As director of the HLT-MT unit, Marcello oversees the work of about 15 researchers and PhD students. His research expertise is in statistical machine translation, spoken language translation, statistical language modeling, information retrieval and speech recognition. In these areas, Marcello has coauthored over 180 scientific publications, contributed in 20 international and national projects, and codeveloped widely-used software packages for machine translation and language modeling. He has served on the program committees of all major international conferences in the field of human language technology. Since 2004, Marcello has been co-organizing the International Workshop on Spoken Language Translation workshop series. He has also been editor-in-chief and associate editor for refereed journals (ACM Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing; Foundations and Trends in Information Retrieval), and is currently senior editor for the journal IEEE/ACM Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing. Marcello is a senior member of the IEEE and of the ACM.
