Maryam Aly has been an engineer at Foursquare since 2012 but has been working on localization full time since 2015. She has written software tooling to streamline the translation process, built a pipeline to automatically translate the most-viewed tips and done other feature work to improve user experiences in specific languages. Prior to Foursquare, Maryam studied at Carnegie Mellon where she was a teaching assistant at the Pittsburgh and Qatar campuses and graduated with School of Computer Science Honors. She has also taught computer science through Girls Who Code and ScriptEd, and has given talks on Scala and Foursquare at meetups and hackathons.
