May Li is a professor of linguistics with Tongji University, China, and a member of the Tongji University Council. She acts as vice chairman of Shanghai Science & Technology Translation Society and vice director of the Translation Technology Education & Research Society of WITTA (World Interpreter and Translator Training Association). May obtained her MA and PhD degrees in linguistics from the University of Manchester, UK. She previously worked as editor of English programs with Anhui People’s Broadcasting Station, Anhui Province, China. May has been working at Tongji University since 1988. During her years at Tongji, while being a full-time teacher, she worked as assistant head of the Department of English, adjunct vice director of the University President’s Office, deputy director of the university International Exchange and Cooperation Office and acting dean of the School of Foreign Languages. She led an Americas and Oceania Team of 11 people at the Shanghai Expo 2010 Bidding Office and contributed to Shanghai’s successfully bringing Expo to China. May has had wide publications in linguistics and applied linguistics in leading academic journals in China. She has focused her research interest in technical communication and machine translation post-editing in recent years.
