The shortage of talent in localization has been a recurring topic at every LocWorld conference. This panel discussion will provide an overview of education offers, institutions, qualifications and activities in the industry, based on a recent survey performed by Kent State University. The panel participants will discuss which areas of localization are currently understaffed, and what the desired qualifications are to fill those positions. What are the typical career paths and where does the future lie for localization experts? Are the current offerings of education in localization sufficient and how can internal training at language service providers and with clients complement them?
Takeaways: Attendees will get an overview of the current localization talent market, educational offerings and efforts done in the industry to properly qualify personnel in localization; attendees will be also encouraged to reflect on their professional qualifications and career paths and what we as professionals can do to increase the qualifications of newcomers to localization.
