The Asian languages have been considered less compatible with machine translation (MT) while the use of MT in European languages has become practical for several years. Recently, the emergence of neural machine translation has shed some light on those languages that have not seemed to be doing well with MT, but is that really true? Have other options already lost the battle? What are some of the tips and tricks to make MT more successful in Asian languages? We will share some of the findings from our researches to give insight into the utilization of MT in Asian languages, especially for Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

Takeaways: Attendees will learn about the current circumstances of MT solutions surrounding Asian languages; how to design an optimal MT workflow for Asian languages; and some tips and tricks for applying MT to Asian languages such as pre- and post-editing.
