Sheriff Issaka is an undergraduate King-Morgridge scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He majors in computer science with minors in entrepreneurship and African studies. Sheriff is an artificial intelligence (AI) researcher, enthusiast, and alarmist. He is most interested in the intersection of cutting-edge AI technologies and society. His AI research includes analysis of the state of AI in Africa, AI optimization solutions in Midwest dairy farms, utilization of predictive and assessment models to improve operations in multinational banks like Ecobank, and the use of generative adversarial networks for realistic image reconstruction. As part of Sheriff’s own African Languages Lab project, he works with teams around the world to build text-to-text translation, speech recognition, and conversational chatbots for low-resourced African languages.
